Josh Hammer, Budding Jehovah's Witness

From the piss poor travelogue "Ethiopia Opens Its Doors, Slowly," by Joshua Hammer in the Sunday Times:
The door slammed shut in 1998, when a territorial dispute between Ethiopia and Eritrea erupted in a savage war that lasted for two years.

Calling a war savage is like calling a steak, "beef-filled." (Also, people pretty much traveled there all through the war.) I was waiting for Hammer to reference "guerilla warfare" - but accidentally call it "gorilla warfare."

On a quick read, I counted three pretty damning errors, the most glaring of which had to be the misnaming of the previous Ethiopian dictator, Mengistu Haile-Mariam as "Haile Mengistu Mariam." This is why Ethiopia is opening up its doors "slowly": because when people like Josh Hammer (who could moonlight as a porn star with a name like that) come knocking, Ethiopians know it's to give them something they don't really need.
